This is why…

There are times when I am reminded just how worthwhile my job is…

Earlier this year I headed down to Devon to capture the wedding of an old work colleague, Janet, and her lovely man Paul. On the day of the wedding, I went to her home to capture all the usual lead up of bridal prep and little details around the home and later we all headed to the beautiful Lakeview Manor for the main event!

As always, I captured the day exactly as I saw it. I love capturing all the little details around the bride’s home in the morning and then later all the parts of a wedding that most couple’s experience – the ceremony, the speeches, confetti, portraits, the first dance and so on.

I went home from that wedding completely exhausted but smiling as it was so lovely to see Janet and Paul looking as happy as they are together.

I’m always excited to get back into the office after a wedding to start going through all the images and editing them and this wedding was certainly no different.

A little while afterwards, I sent Janet + Paul their final gallery and waited to hear what they thought. The message I got back brought me to tears…

“In my living room,” says Janet, “there is a canvas image up on the wall. I don’t know if you remember seeing it? Anyway, it’s of a couple dancing in candlelight and to me it represented everything I wanted, a couple so in love, looking into each others eyes and dancing under the candles.”

I must admit I had absolutely no recollection of seeing the canvas when I’d been at Janet’s house – which isn’t unusual. I’m usually flitting about capturing everything going on and I quickly forget the details I’ve seen around people’s homes! Janet went on…

“Many years after buying that canvas I found the love of my life and the wedding was set in motion. So, when I received the wedding pictures from you, imagine my surprise! Low and behold there was a picture in beautiful black and white of me and my new husband dancing in exactly the same pose as that canvas print. It moved me to tears. My dreams really had come true and had been captured to treasure forever.”

Well I about near bawled at that! Being able to capture an image that creates such a strong reaction is always humbling and this is such a lovely story, I really well treasure it as long as Janet + Paul will treasure their images. Oh, I should probably show you the image I captured, shouldn’t I?!

And Janet has just messaged me to let me know they now have a canvas alongside the original of this photograph…

Thank you so much for sharing this lovely story with me Janet. And congratulations to you both! A blog post all about their big day will be up on here soon!
